Immigration Via Investment
(EB-5 Visa)
Investors creating employment for at least ten non-relatives by investing capital in new commercial enterprises in the U.S. can also obtain a green card. The investment must be a minimum of US$ 800.000 in an economically-depressed area, or US$ 1.050.000 in other sections of the country. An unrestricted green card will only be granted after two years, when the investment has been realized and jobs created.
The Visa Lottery
(Diversity-Visa)
The easiest way to qualify for a green card is the Diversity Visa Program, commonly known as the Green Card Lottery. Each year, 50,000 green cards are made available through a lottery to people who come from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. Countries who have sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the U.S. in the last five years do not qualify. The applicant or their spouse must be a native of a qualifying country (click here for a list of qualifying country) have a high school diploma or the equivalent (defined as the successful completion of a 12-year course of elementary and secondary education) OR two years work experience within the last five years in an occupation that requires at least two years training or experience to perform. Registration for the lottery takes place in October.
